Warning: Rant ahead. I was on Pinterest and came across this picture:
It looked great to begin with, excellent point about another lesson that HP teaches us, but whoever made this obviously couldn’t resist bashing Twilight. God forbid Twilight has any decent points about it left after everyone who doesn’t like it has ripped it to shreds.
If you don’t like that’s fine! But why the HELL do you think it necessary to push your (ill informed!) points across as to why Twilight is bad?? It’s not even like Harry Potter plays second string to Twilight. Harry Potter plays second string to no-one. There will never be anything as epic as it. You don’t need to make it seem better by belittling something else.
And the information in that little bracket isn’t even correct! Bella is a clutz, she’s a cheater and she’s selfish to the point of putting nearly everyone’s lives in danger to be with a vampire. So, NO, she’s definitely NOT perfect. Yet she still manages to attain a gorgeous, selfless vampire therefore perfection obviously isn’t all that matters.
I’m also guessing by this: And that you need a guy to be happy, when you definitely don’t – they mean in New Moon when Bella is depressed because Edward leaves her. Let me ask you one question: How did you react after your first heartbreak? When your first real love left you? Or the person you thought you’d spend the rest of your life with? I’d bet you my entire book collection that your reaction wasn’t to break out The Pussy Cat Doll’s I Don’t Need A Man. Losing a partner stinks. Don’t be an ass just because you witnessed Bella’s depression after losing Edward.
Think about Charlie. He is perfectly happy with his life, he doesn’t have a women until Breaking Dawn but it didn’t mean his life was nothing. Yes, all the Cullen’s have mates – who the hell would want to spend eternity alone? It’s written into our biology that we seek out a partner. Yes, people can be happy alone. But Twilight is a romance so why are you reading it, if you don’t like romance? If you don’t want two people to be happy together?
For some people getting married and having kids is their life dream. They don’t want a big career or to travel. All they want is to find love and live happily ever after. And that’s what Bella’s story is all about. She found love and was content to spend the rest of her life with it. It’s not your life, so don’t knock her story just because for her (read: not you) the only thing she wants in life is love.
Please don’t take something beautiful and make it ugly.
Harry Potter is also against bullying. That photo is bullying Twilight. It’s standing up on a soap box and shouting out, “Nah, nah, we have better morals than you”, when really they don’t because their accusations are not correct.
Also, if you need another way to compare Harry Potter to Twilight, just don’t. Seriously. In HP their characters start as eleven year olds and by the last book they are 17 (ignoring the epilogue where they are all grown up [AND MARRIED]). Twilight begins with the characters being 16. MAJOR difference in age and therefore of course the romantic differences are going to be vast.
By the way – Hermione and Harry are both sad when they can’t be with the ones they like. Are you going to bag them out??
P.S. Did you notice? The creator of the image couldn’t even spell “definitely”
