The last time I did this kind of post I stuck “in training” in the title as well. I hadn’t realised my unpublished status didn’t mean I was in training. I’m not. I’m a full fledged writer. I will always be learning, but I am writer.
Monday 12th March 2018
I’m on holidays for the week and I chose to spend it at home. Yay!
I woke at 7.10 and slept/read in bed until 9. I’m reading Doctor Who: His Lives and Times. It’s a non fiction book about the different Doctors throughout the length of the show. It has snippets of fiction in the form of diaries from companions, and other memorabilia from the show. There are also quotes from conversations with the actors and the Doctors themselves.
I had a shower, then wanted to film a Booktube video, but my hair was wet. I had Coco Pops Chexs for breakfast while checking my Twitter poll. I can’t decide what to read next, but felt like a historical setting. Dragonfly in Amber held the lead at breakfast. (The problem with having a TBR shelf that looks too good!)
From 10.15 I edited. The half-way mark of my story is interesting and I didn’t have much trouble slipping into the story. Right now I’m making the changes I wrote on a hardcopy months ago. I should be able to finish this month. If I don’t, it’s because I didn’t complete my challenge and became lazy.
At 10.45-ish I brought the washing in, folding it whilst I took it off the line…! Something I have never done, but my younger cousin does – why not me? It felt soothing, but I doubt I’ll do it every time.
After the washing, I wanted to stay outside. The grape vine and bamboo plants needed a trim (they still need one!), and the leaves needed to swept off the concrete. I trimmed the parts I could get to of the plants and that weren’t occupied by spiders (eek!). Last night is when the green bins get picked up. Today I will put my cuttings from this day into the green bin, and hopefully won’t fill it again. I can’t wait until our council begins to pick up the green bin once a week in July, but most of the overgrown stuff will probably be tamed by then!
Just after 12pm I sat at my desk again to write. Only 3 minutes in I had to stop my timer and brew a cup of tea. My nose felt irritated, probably by some kind of allergy, and tea calms it down. I made a pot using my Aladdin tea set. However I wanted chamomile which I only have in loose leaf and I don’t have a strainer that sits in the pot. Therefore I added another item to the bunch and used my strainer.
Back to writing, and along the way I discovered notes I’d made on my hardcopy. They were calculations estimating how many more days it would take to go through the hardcopy.
My sister interrupted me every now and then while she learnt how to use the washing machine and did the dishes. She’s actually quite a social person when she wants to be.
I also had a writing buddy. My dog curled up in the corner of my shelves next to my desk.
Around 1.30 I had finished another session of only 36 minutes approx. because of the distractions. But I still made progress and it’s not possible to ignore family forever.
I had lunch, but for the life of me I can’t remember what I ate. I think I watched something on Netflix while eating, and shortly after I went to the mall. I bought new bath mats, hand wash and toilet cleaners for our second toilet. I don’t use it often because I don’t like it’s atmosphere. We haven’t spent much time on it and there is a dead spider stuck behind a plastic sheet on the window. It’s become my mission this week to fix it up. Today I will probably mop the floor, clean everything over and try to get that spider out, before decorating it with the new purchases. Woolworths had a half price sale on the bath mats! A sign from heaven!
Back home, Netflix reigned again as I went on social media and cleaned out my email inbox. Daniel came home at 3.30 and we watched TV together. I balanced our accounts to my spreadsheet and twiddled my thumbs until 6.30.
My pole class for the fortnight was scheduled then and it turns out I hate waiting around. I had a nap at 5.15 and didn’t want to get out of bed until 6.05 when I HAD to. I dressed in a rush and arrived on time.
The pole class was super fun. It was my first time back in a while, but my pole teacher is awesome. We talk books in between and it’s a good mix of gruelling exercise and socialising. She had borrowed two novels from me Draekora and Graevale by Lynette Noni and begged me to read them soon! I felt keen for Draekora and will probably read it soon, despite the Twitter poll (I can be so fickle!).
I didn’t learn any new tricks, but my body remembered old ones, which is excellent! I really must practice at home, and my abs feel slightly sore today.
At home again, Daniel and I watched Netflix. I edited a Booktube video. When Daniel put headphones on to play Xbox, I pulled out my manuscript and edited again. During the day I’d added a new goal tracker for this week to edit another 36 minutes a day. I managed 33 before calling it a night.
In bed I read a bit more of The Doctor before watching 2/3 of an episode of When Calls the Heart (also on Netflix). Daniel then came to bed and we slept.
In conclusion, yesterday was productive. I’m glad I didn’t spend the day lounging around, but I didn’t also force myself to do a ton. I AM on holidays after all 🙂
How has your week been going?
